Culinary Delights

  • I’m a regular at two farmers’ markets: The Chapel Hill Farmers’ Market and the Carrboro Farmers’ Market. Our food is as good as it is because of the many wonderful farms a few miles from here. A great meal starts with quality ingredients.
  • I love to decompress with a drive out to RambleRill Farm in Hillsborough, where I buy eggs and spinach.
  • I’m crazy about the seafood at Squid’s. You can’t go wrong with the fish of the day and a martini. Oh, and don’t skip the hush puppies.
  • The Siena Hotel is one of my favorite bars because it’s so serene. And they make a divine martini.
  • I also love the bar at Lantern. Get an exotic cocktail like the Junebug. You’ll feel a world away.
  • When the weather is nice (and in Chapel Hill, that is so often the case), I love to dine outside at Vimala’s, Brixx Pizza or The Root Cellar.
  • There’s a reason the double BLT at Merritt’s Grill gets talked about so much.
  • Last fall, I volunteered at the TerraVita Food & Drink Festival, a wonderful celebration of our amazing culinary superstars.
  • The bar area of Southern Season’s restaurant, The Weathervane, is among my favorite places to have coffee. (Sometimes, in the afternoon, I splurge and get the pimento cheese fritters, too.) And I love the gorgeous Caffé Driade near my home.
  • Clean Juice is a relatively new addition to town, and a surefire way to feel instantly healthier. Same goes for Living Kitchen. (At Clean Juice, I get “The Youthful One” because – why not?)
  • I’ve had all kinds of barbecue all over the South – none better than Allen & Son.
  • For Sunday brunch in the spring, nothing beats the iconic Crook’s Corner
  • If you want to decompress on a Sunday afternoon, drive out to Maple View Ice Cream for a cone on the porch. My go-to flavor is pistachio.
  • In a matter of minutes, I can be in Saxapahaw, at The Eddy, overlooking the Haw River and dining on the deck.

I’d love to hear from you!
